The Tornado

Tornado photo wiki

Definition: “A tornado is a violently rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the earth and a cumulonimbus cloud or, in rare cases, the base of a cumulus cloud. They are often referred to as twisters or cyclones”.

I have tried for sometime to write a parametric equation for a shape that “looks like” a tornado. The preliminary designs were not so good looking. After some trial and error and adding more components to the existing function, the better looking ones were obtained. The figures below illustrate the developments.

Initial Designs:

As you see, among the initial versions, some were “very regular” some were not even looking like a twister.

Tornado F1

Tornado F2

Later Versions:

Tornado 2 F3 Tornado 2 F2 Tornado 2 F1

One can use discrete points instead of a line and apply a little randomness to their position. That has been done and is shown below.Tornado 4 F2

I will update this post once I can build better ones (Perhaps by using actual Tornado Solutions 🙂 )
