U.S. Chronic Disease Indicators (CDI)

Description of the dataset

The dataset contains 237961 rows of data and the following are the columns for the data.

  • YearStart
  • YearEnd
  • LocationAbbr – This is the abbreviated name of the state from where the data was obtained
  • DataSource – tells the organization from which the data has been collected
  • Topic – topic under consideration used for questionnaire
  • Question –  gives what question was asked under the given topic
  • Response – reply to the question asked
  • DataValueUnit – metric used for the number indicated. Some examples include percentage, per 100000, etc.,
  • DataValueTypeID – ID assigned to the type of the data value
  • DataValueType – type of the data value
  • DataValue – numeric or character
  • DataValueAlt – alternate numeric or character value if available from the survey
  • StratificationCategory1
  • StratificationCategory2
  • StratificationCategory3
  • Stratification2
  • Stratification3
  • GeoLocation – latitude and longitude
  • TopicID – topic under question. Eg. Alcohol or cigarettes etc
  • QuestionID
  • StratificationCategoryID1
  • StratificationCategoryID2
  • StratificationCategoryID3
  • StratificationID2
  • StratificationID3

There is a ton of data to analyse and I have found some of these to be very interesting. The maps have both the numbers as well as colors for easy reference and legends wherever needed.


Alcohol prevalence among youth

From what we can see, the Alcohol abuse among the youth is highest in the following states of the United States

  • Delaware
  • Louisiana
  • Texas
  • North Dakota
